Orders
Secure On-line Ordering
Of course our shopping cart system is secure! It always has been, it always will be. We use only the best system with the most sophisticated applications written by brilliant engineers who know how to keep the hackers and others away.
Sales Tax
Sales tax is only applicable to those placing orders who reside in California. The sales tax rate is 8.25%.
Paying with a Check
Because too many immoral persons sent us bad checks Treats for Chickens no longer accepts checks. Our shopping cart system allows you to use a variety of credit cards, or a debit card, and we take Pay Pal.
Multiple orders placed close together
If you place an order, then place another order after it - this could be 5 minutes later, or a day later, or longer - we cannot combine orders. You will receive individual orders.
Orders - Placed Then Canceled
When you place an order with Treats for Chickens you have agreed that you will pay for the items. You have also agreed that you are the legal card holder. We are not responsible for persons who claim their card was used without the permission - we expect you to guard your credit card and use it wisely.
If you email asking us to cancel your order, and if the order has not been shipped, we will consider canceling it. In the event we agree to cancel the order there is a cancellation fee of $8 which will be deducted when we issue the credit back to the card you used for the purchase.
If you cancel the order and it has already shipped you are responsible for getting the order back to us in the condition Treats for Chickens describes in Exchanges. A 20% restocking fee for the items will apply. Shipping is not refunded.
Any email correspondence regarding canceling orders MUST include the order number and be written in a clear, articulate manner - without hostility. Failure to do so will result in Treats for Chickens refusing to cancel the order.
Orders - Placed, then you want to add another item or two
We can do this only if the order is not already packed or sent. There is a $4 fee to add additional items. This fee is required because we pay for every credit card transaction.
Emailed Receipts
Seconds after your order is placed and completed, you are automatically sent an email confirmation which contains your billing, shipping information, as well as a list of the items you ordered. If you did not get this email it is because you typed your email address incorrectly, or your spam filter blocked it - all of which is beyond Treats for Chickens control.
Treats for Chickens does not respond to messages from your ISP asking us to fill out a form so that you can review emails suspected of being spam.
Phone Orders
Sorry folks, Treats for Chickens does not accept phone orders. Treats for Chickens does not take phone calls.
Gifts
Gift Orders
Everyone loves a gift! And we love sending orders which are gifts! Your friends love a surprise which comes in the mail - its like Christmas any time of the year! Most of our products make lovely presents! We do not gift wrap per se, but we can include a gift card, and if we've got some pretty paper, we'll use it. There is no charge for this gracious service! Just tell us what to say on the gift card, and we'll do the rest. If you do not want us to include the receipt in their box, please ask us.
Orders - Gift with Purchase
We so love to gift people and their chickens we do so with special promotions or special product bundles. In order to receive gifts you must select and pay for the special bundles, or order the stated dollar amount in goods.
We might also ask you to type in a code on your order form to get a gift. If you don't type in the code we assume that you do not want the gift.
Gift promotions always have an expiration date.
All sales are final whenever there was a gift with purchase or any other promotion.
Shipping
Shipping - How we ship
Treats for Chickens ships only via the US Postal Service because it’s the fastest, most reliable, and it is the least expensive.
We do not process "rush" orders, nor do we ship overnight or express. We do not use Fed Ex, UPS, or DHL.
Shipping - When will you ship my order?
We work quick like a fox working hard to get your order out the door. Generally we ship Monday through Friday - but occasionally we take a day off from shipping so we can get caught up on inventory control, re-stocking, or performing other necessary tasks. If you ordered on a weekend or a holiday we will try to ship the next business day.
Orders placed after 2pm Pacific Standard Time during the week will not go out until the next business day.
Shipping - How long will it take?
The post office tells us that packages generally take 2 to 7 days to arrive. Our experience confirms that it takes about that long. Sometimes they are faster! Sometimes they are slower.
Due to occasional slowdowns within their system, including increased loads during November and December, your package could take longer to arrive. We do not ever guarantee delivery dates for these reasons. For peace of mind, please allow 10 days for delivery from the date you ordered.
Errors in Shipping Address
Mother always said that neatness counts - so please be careful when filling out forms. If you made a mistake on the shipping address Treats for Chickens is not responsible.
Treats for Chickens "copies and pastes" shipping addresses exactly as you typed them. Please type with care, go slowly, and fill out the required fields correctly.
Treats for Chickens cannot be expected to make changes to shipping addresses if the customer has sent an email. Its also possible that the customer did not notice the error until after the package shipped, again, this is beyond Treats for Chickens control. If the box bounces back to us please look at the Your Package section for our policy on boxes which bounced back.
Shipping Outside US
Treats for Chickens does not ship to Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, or to APO addresses. The reason is that many products will not clear customs.
We go to great lengths to announce that we do not ship to Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, and APO's. Not only do we publish this policy here, but you'll see this on the online order form. Also, the words United States are coded into the order form which indicates that we only ship within the 50 states.
Any orders submitted to us going to Canada, Europe, Puerto Rico, and APO's will be cancelled. There is a $5 service charge to process the cancellation. $5 will be deducted from the total of your order. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Damaged Packages or Goods
Damaged Packages
We are obsessive about packing orders to protect each item so that everything looks perfect when you get it.
It does not happen very often but occasionally a post office elephant sits on a package and its smashed. You will need to email us within 2 days of receiving the damaged package.
When you write to us you must use clear detail to describe the extent of the damage, the condition of the box and its contents. We'll need to know if the post office attached any stickers or documentation to the package. We might need to see a photo - we'll tell you if we do. See Contact Us for the email address.
Damaged Goods
We are a very small business. Therefore every order is reviewed by two people. Every item we sell and ship is reviewed by two people. We do not ship anything which is damaged in any way. Every item which leaves our office is in perfect condition.
Insurance Claims
Insurance claims can only be processed on a lost package after its been 21 days since the order shipped.
Claims to damaged boxes can be processed immediately after receiving your letter (see Damaged Packages).
After you have notified us via email that a box was lost or damaged, a proper letter which was signed and dated is required in order to process any claim. The insurance companies will not accept an email - the letter must be either hand written or typed, and hand signed. THIS MUST BE DONE OR A CLAIM CANNOT BE PROCESSED.
We'll give you more instruction after we have corresponded by email. Claims and replacing the products from damaged packages can be processed immediately after we have discussed the situation and received your signed letter.
If your package arrives damaged:
You must email us and describe in clear detail any damages to product and/or box which occurred in transit.
* we will need your full name and address
* the order number (if you paid by check please tell us)
* details of damages and condition of the shipping box when it arrived
We may need you to return the damaged items and box, but we will discuss this with you via email.
Claims to damaged packages must be made within 2 days of the delivery date of the package. Once we have received your email describing the damages we can begin the process of resolving the matter.
Your Package - When Packages Bounce Back
If a package comes back to us because it was never claimed or the address was wrong you will be notified within 30 days.
Please note that whatever reason the box came back to us, it is not our fault - we copy and paste your shipping address exactly as you typed it.
If a box comes back the options are:
* We can reship, but need to charge shipping again
* We can restock and refund IF the merchandise was returned in perfect condition. Please see our rules on refunds and credits.
Your Package - Lost or Delayed Packages
The post office has gone through many very good changes in recent years, they rarely make a mistake, and they are getting packages to us faster. But sometimes things go wrong. Perhaps one of their hubs is experiencing problems. The holiday rush seems to be beginning earlier than ever (often the slow down begins shortly after Halloween). Sometimes something got mis-routed causing it to take longer than the usual 2 - 5 days for a Priority Mail package to reach its destination. All of this is beyond Treats for Chickens control.
If your package hasn't arrived after 6 or 7 days of the date we shipped its possible that its at your local post office waiting for you. Yes, the carrier should have left you a note, but often they do not, or the note blows away. If this happened complain to the Supervisor at your local station. Its also possible that a family member grabbed the box and put it in a closet or a room. It could also be with a neighbor.
According to postal regulations a package is not considered completely lost until it has been 21 days since it was shipped. At that time we can replace the items for you and process the insurance claim.
Returns - Returns Policy
We go to great lengths to vividly explain our products and how they are used. We do all of this so that the customer can make correct and well informed shopping decisions so that returns can be avoided.
We also go to great time and expense to write up and print handouts which come with the items you ordered so that you'll be able to get the most of your products.
We also cannot control customer usage of the products, its possible that they were not used correctly, or even if they were used at all, or if the chicken is living in a less than ideal environment full of chaos and stress.
All sales are final.
Returns - Approved Exchanges
* We will tell you via email if the request for an exchange has been approved.
* You are required to include a copy of the email for our reference, and provide the order number.
* We will give you an Exchange Authorization code to write on the box.
* You are responsible for the shipping charges to return the item.
* It is the customer's responsibility to make sure that the items reach Treats for Chickens in a new, un-used, un-opened, un-damaged, and re-sellable condition. Treats for Chickens will determine if the items are in new, un-used, un-opened, un-damaged and re-sellable condition upon receipt. We recommend careful wrapping and packing of the item in a box.
* If we receive a product back and it is not in new, un-used, un-opened, un-damaged, and re-sellable condition Treats for Chickens cannot accept the exchange. We will contact you and inquire what you wish us to do with the item - if you want it sent back to you shipping charges will apply. If you do not respond to our email we will wait 30 days then donate the items to a shelter.
* In the case of an approved exchange there will be a 20% restocking fee. We will also charge you for shipping again.
Returns - Restocking Fee
There will be a 20% re-stocking fee for all returned items for exchanges. This is based the price paid for the item, not shipping..
Privacy
We are very concerned about the continuing and growing lack of privacy in our modern world.
Any communications between us will not go beyond Treats for Chickens. We will never divulge any information about you, or your purchases. We do not have an interest in selling, renting or trading your name, address, telephone number, or email. There is no need for it.
We do not send out unwanted emails advertising Treats for Chickens or anything else. We do not snail mail catalogs or announcements. We are active in the movement to protect privacy and civil rights, and we expect that you are proactive as well.
If you get an emailed newsletter - its because YOU signed up for it. We do not harvest emails!

Animal Abuse - Zero Tolerance
Treats for Chickens absolutely has a zero tolerance policy on animal abuse. If we know or suspect abuse is going on, we will contact local authorities.
We also have a zero tolerance policy against the abuse of women and children. We have a zero tolerance policy against hate, and hate crimes. All beings deserve love, kindness, understanding, and the freedom to live their life in a healthy and safe manner.
Animal Abuse - If you suspect animal abuse
Its understandable that you might hesitate actually confronting the abuser. But to remain silent, and not go to the authorities, is almost as bad as the crime. Call or write to local authorities, which you can do anonymously. There are humane societies when the abuse involves animals. There are shelters for battered women. There are counselors and other professionals who can guide you to the right organization which can help. Silence and apathy do no one any good.

Shipping Boxes and Packaging
Yes, we are hardcore and unstoppable environmentalists. All of our shipping boxes are made from recycled materials and they are 100% recyclable themselves! That includes the tape!
Never ever ever ever will we use any form of packing peanut or popcorn. We hate that stuff. Its a waste of resources, its hard to get rid of, it breaks down into bitty pieces eventually so saying that its "re-usable" is a joke (and a bad joke).
Our Efforts to Green the World
We're relentless. And we hope that we inspire you to green up your own home and the world around you. The minute the technology is there we will convert our Prius to electric. We plan to turn our office solar. We only use packing materials which can be recycled, composted,or reused. We do not buy factory farmed meats and fish. We support only small family businesses. We do not support outsourcing of jobs to other countries. We do not support goods made in countries such as China.
