Petaluma, The Egg Capital of the World
Well, it was. Petaluma was branded The World’s Egg Basket during the first half of the 20th century when it was arguably the center of California’s poultry industry. Dawn's Granny grew up on the family’s 100+ acre pastured egg farm during Petaluma’s boom. Peaking in the mid 1940s, the regions poultry ranches produced over 600 million eggs annually. With the climate and proximity to river and rail links into San Francisco and beyond, the industry developed and became a stable incubator for chicken eggs. With most "booms" there's an enivetable bust and in the ‘60s, the egg industry moved east.
Treats for Chickens hatched in 2009 in West Petaluma, California. It's current located is Cotati, California.
Petaluma's Butter & Eggs Day Parade
In celebration of Petaluma’s egg-centric past, each April, folks from all over the San Francisco Bay Area flock to the streets of Petaluma to join in celebrating the rich history of Petaluma's egg and poultry heritage.
